Impersonator 52n (Gen-2) ..... Tele* neck with soft edged Twang

All new Gen-2 Tele neck pickup with metal cover

The all NEW Gen-2  Impersonator 52n incorporates newly developed technology and specially made parts engineered to produce our first Tele neck pickup with Non-Aged-Sound.  We recommend you scroll to the Technical & Application Info section below for important stuff you should know about this new model.

The sound it produces is non-aged, that means quite dynamic and alive.  Behaves like a new non-noiseless pickup and tends to resist crunching too easily under heavy pick attack.  Highs with a lot of presence, soft edged twangy midrange with highly prominent piano mid-tones and lovely deep bass .... and it's loud and punchy.

Volume pot should be 500k to achieve the best sonic performance.

Excellent on-stage definition without having to play too loud.  It will sound as good to your audience as it does to you whether it's soft, loud or distorted.

The 3 new Vintage Neck pickup models, AVn-60n, AVn-48n and Impersonator 52n, have a lot in common but there are subtle but significant differences between them.  The AVn-48n has the sharpest twang with the most prominent piano mid tones.  The AVn-60n is one step away and has a slightly more mellow twang and slightly softer feel and is about as loud as the 48n.  The Impersonator 52n is the most rounded with the mildest attack and is as loud and the others.

It 's got a far taller string sensing coil, longer magnets and Kinman's patented magnetic focusing technology which enables Non-Aged-Sound to be produced with enough volume to balance with the very loud Impersonator 52b bridge model too.

The sonic performance is upheld by our NEW Gen-2 Nickel-Silver cover which is engineered to look like the original but not impact in a negative way on the sonic performance of the pickup as the original 60's Fender Chromed Brass covers do.   Our cover is also arched to allow staggered magnets which produce much improved string volume balance.  Also the grounded cover does not produce buzz when touched with fingers.  Available in 3 finishes, Chrome plated, Gold plated and buffed un-plated Nickel-Silver that will age fast for a relic look.

This pickup has Kinman's propriety Alnico-K low strength magnets, like all our Fender type pickups so string pull and Strat-itis pitch warble is minimized and sustain is longer since there is less rattle and buzz from the strings crashing into the frets from excessive magnet pull.

Best in a Kinman Goodbye-Soldering Harness.

Some people will call these noiseless Telecaster pickups but Kinman prefers to describe them correctly as Zero-Hum Telecaster pickups.  That's because there are 2 types of noise, Hum which is cancelled in the pickup and Buzz which can only be minimized by shielding the wiring cavities (refer to >Technical >Perfect Guitar >Shielding for newer guitars

Number of parts in this pickup: 168
Number of parts in normal pickup: 10
Number of parts in other brand noiseless: 23

Adjustment requirements
The Impersonator 52n has an advanced magnetic circuit and needs to be adjusted close to the strings to get it's best performance.  You can adjust the pickup as close as 1.5mm gap between bottom of E-6th and top of cover with string pressed onto the 12th fret (or not so close if the strings strike the cover).

Adjustment requirements

Please refer to >Technical >Adjust & Setup

Cavity depth required

  • Suitable for vintage spec models which have pickup cavity depth of 16mm (5/8").

Connection means available

  • Prepared bare wires for soldering.
  • Kinman connector for plugging into any Kinman Goodbye-Soldering Harness.

Hook-up cable

  • Prepared and cut generously longer than necessary for Telecasters.
  • Custom lengths by request with Order.
  • 3 conductor shielded cable (enables series connection of 4 pos switch -and- phase reversible -and- it's compatible with Fender's S1) harness).

Dimensions

Output Polarity:

  • Phase reversible so can adapt to any companion pickups.

Pot & Capacitor values

  • Best with a 500k or 1Meg volume pot.  Will have subdued piano mid tones and twang with 250k, not recommended.
    • If you don't include a Harness, for additional $25 we will include a 500k pot and parts and instructions for our Auto-Change device with your order for when the other pickups requires 250k.
    • If you don't include a Harness, for additional $19 we will include the parts and instructions with your order.
  • Tone pot is usually the same value as the volume but for a little more top end brightness can be 1meg or a No-Load.
  • Stock pots can actually measure as low as 350k Ohms.  Pots in our Goodbye-Soldering Harness are guaranteed to measure no less that 500k Ohms.
  • Normal tone cap value of 0.022uF in 63 ~ 100 volt Polyester.  Smaller value reduces the severity of Treble cut, larger values increase it.

Magnet spread

  • Standard 50mm only

Magnet Staggers

  • Normal improved Stagger to suit 7 ~ 14 inch uniform radius fretboards including USA Custom Guitar Compound 7-1/4" ~ 9-1/2

  • Arched top to accommodate staggered magnets for perfect string volume balance.
  • With or without Kinman logo.

We highly recommend consulting the Install Guide in Tech Info even if you think you know it all.  Kinmans' require specialized knowledge and sometimes there is updated info.  There is also a handy wiring diagram available.

We also highly recommend consulting the Adjust & Set-up page in Tech Info so you get the best out of your Kinman pickups.

** Alnico-K is a unique proprietary Alnico rod magnet developed by Kinman in 1985.  It is Alnico-5 but has 40% less string pull than Alnico-5 so sustain is longer and there is much less clatter from string crash and no Strat-itis string warble.
